Located at the hectic traffic junction of ‘the Sterre’, Home Astrid seems an oasis of tranquility in Ghent. Nothing is less true however, quite an achievement for this home with only five floors. Home Astrid is a relatively small association where everyone knows everyone, but what sets them apart is that they really live together, almost like a family. The members cook, party, eat, study and sport together. We also offer support to the residents and we regularly organise meetings on potential innovations at our home. Each year a brand new and enthusiastic praesidium is ready to help anyone who lives in our home. They organise spectacular parties, chill nights at a bar, unforgettable ‘cantusses’ and a good amount of sports and cultural activities. These events bring the residents together and forge close friendships. But our residents don’t just attend their own activities. Wearing their ribbons they make sure they are represented adequately. The home council lays down it’s work once the exams arrive. From then on studying is prioritised. The solarium (the upper floor) is then transformed into a study room and seems to be very popular among the residents.
