The VVN: a student association that strives to bring science to the general public.
Are you tired of wandering through the Overpoort without purpose and ending up once more with someone from the Philippines and a new pet? Are you looking for some depth in your cheap student life or do you just want to come across a bit more like an intellectual? The Association for Physics (Vereniging voor Natuurkunde, VVN) provides you with the solution. The VVN organizes popular lectures related to physics and astronomy. These lectures are a perfect contribution to different ‘bar talking points’ like Schrödingers cat, alternative timelines or global warming. Furthermore they can be illuminating for different films and series like Interstellar, Rick and Morty and The Big Bang Theory.
After every lecture there is a chance to maintain your level of ethanol, where you can test the use of these lectures during spontaneous practice conversations guided by physicists and/or civil engineers. The VVN also thinks about the more romantic souls. We organize stargazing nights by moonlight or bluelight (depending on whether or not the Buffalo’s are playing football). This is the perfect occasion for players and man-eaters who are looking for a ‘nice piece of meat’.
We don’t just focus on future relationship statuses and successful tinder dates, but also on the survival of our student life. Thanks to the nefarious Chinese plan to turn up the thermostat collectively, the Walloons will soon have their own beach. That’s why the VVN goes on an annual trip to explore higher located places in the hope that these are fitted for cognitive development.
During this journey the VVN resides at a foreign location that will stir up our interest in physics and everything related to it. Finally, the VVN has discovered a trend whereby different student associations organize innocent activities like game nights and quizzes to improve their image. We thought that it would not be a bad idea to try this as well, but then done better. PS. The VVN is called a ‘student association’ but we don’t ‘baptize’ nor organize ‘cantusses’, for now at least. The VVN doesn’t have members or ribbons, just a board of students who are willing to promote the popularization of science. Everyone, student at Ghent University or not, is welcome at our free activities.
